I turned 26 today. Which feels weird and bittersweet at the same time. So much has changed over the past year. In September, I finally made the most important decision in my life so far: moving to New York City. I’ve dreamt about living here for most of my life – coming from Jersey City, right across the Hudson River with the NYC skyline always looming in the distance. Every time I visited I felt like I truly belonged. Now that I’m here, I’ve finally come to peace with myself.
I moved out of Florida for the first time in 18 years, away from my family, friends and everything I’ve known for so long. I was way too comfortable where I was. I could have stayed, but I knew I had to challenge myself. There’s so much more for me to accomplish here.
I don’t know what the next year will hold for me, but I want to start doing more. Somehow finding a happy medium between balancing grad school, a social life and possibly a part-time job, while also finding more hobbies, more time to blog and more time to travel. It’s only been six days in, but 2017 has already been treating me well. I know this will be a great year.
